How to Attach a Hair System: Tape vs Glue

Tape or glue — the short answer
Tape is clean, quick and beginner-friendly: strips of double-sided adhesive give a 1–2 week hold and peel off without residue. Liquid adhesive (glue) is more waterproof and holds 2–4 weeks, at the cost of a slightly longer application and clean-up. Many wearers start on tape and move to glue once the routine is second nature; plenty stay on tape for life. Neither is 'better' — they trade convenience for longevity.
Preparing the scalp
A clean, dry, oil-free scalp is 90% of a lasting bond. Shave or trim the attachment zone, wash with a clarifying shampoo, dry fully, then wipe with a scalp prep or alcohol to strip any oil. Skin oils are the single most common reason a bond lifts early — this step is worth doing slowly.
Setting the hairline first
With the system dry-fitted, mark your hairline position with the mirror — usually about four finger-widths above the brows. Apply your tape or a thin, even coat of adhesive to the perimeter, let glue reach its tacky stage per its instructions, then set the front edge first and press outward and back along the perimeter. Front first means the most visible part is always right.
Removing without damage
Never pull a bond dry. Work a citrus-based or oil remover around the perimeter, wait for the adhesive to release, and lift gently from back to front. Clean all residue from both the base and your scalp before the next attachment — built-up adhesive is what shortens a base's life.
