How to measure your hair-loss area in five minutes, which base size to order, and how cut-down sizing works.

The five-minute measurement
You need a soft measuring tape and a mirror (or a second pair of hands). Measure front to back: from the point where your hairline should start — about four finger-widths above the eyebrows — straight over the top to where solid growth resumes at the crown. Then side to side: across the widest point of the thinning area, temple to temple. Write both numbers down in inches or centimeters.
Reading the sizes
Sizes are written width × length: an 8"×10" (20×25cm) base covers 8 inches ear-to-ear and 10 inches front-to-back — a full top-of-head coverage that fits most men. If your measured area is smaller, the standard base is simply cut down to your shape; every product page lists the minimum cut-down size for each base, because perimeter materials differ.
Cutting down: who does it
Any barber or stylist can trim a base to a template of your area in a few minutes — or do it yourself: mark the perimeter with an erasable pencil while wearing the uncut base, remove, and trim just inside the line with sharp scissors. Making a template
For a perfect first fit, make a cling-film template: layer 3–4 sheets of cling film over the area, fix with clear tape until rigid, mark your desired hairline and the perimeter with a marker, and cut it out. Photograph it next to a ruler and send it with your consultation — we'll confirm the size to order.
Between sizes?
Order the larger size — cutting down is normal and expected; stretching a too-small base is not possible. And if you're unsure after measuring, send us the two numbers with your photos: sizing advice is part of the free consultation.
